There are a lot of good reasons to take up an MMA class. However, we realize that not everyone who is checking out our class offerings is familiar with mixed martial arts, beyond what you might have seen on television. So, here’s a short list of all the reasons you might want to check out our MMA classes.

Reason #1 – Fitness

Without a doubt, mixed martial arts fighters have to be in excellent shape. And if you think about it, it’s not just because they have to make weight for a fight. Virtually every fighter in every weight class looks about as ripped as an extra from the cast of 300 when they step in the ring. And for good reason…

MMA classes offer some of the toughest fat-burning workouts you’ll find anywhere. There’s nothing that can match a solid MMA class for helping your body to burn fat and gain lean muscle. So, if you’re looking for a workout that won’t bore you to tears, you could do a lot worse than to check out an MMA class.

Reason #2 – The Challenge

Mixed martial arts is a challenging sport, there’s no doubt about it. While other sports might engage just a few muscle groups at a rather leisurely pace, with MMA every minute of class is a workout you won’t forget. There’s no slouching when it comes to doing MMA – you’re either working out, or not. There is no middle ground.

And besides that, it’s mentally challenging as well. Forget the stereotype of the heavily-muscled Neanderthal, slugging it out in the center of the ring. Those days are long gone, and there’s a reason why everyone from dock workers to attorneys to medical students are attracted to train and compete in the cage. It takes a sharp mind to develop and work a winning strategy in a sport that is so multi-dimensional.

MMA takes discipline, courage, and brains to compete successfully. You have to be able to outthink your opponent, both on your feet, in the clinch, and on the ground. And, in order to come out on top in a match without a scratch (as many fighters can do these days), you need to be able to play a game of physical chess with your opponent.

That’s the challenge of MMA. And that’s why we love it.

Reason #3 – Anyone Can Do It

When people contact us about training in MMA, they often ask if they are going to get beat up. The answer is, “NO!”

You see, it’s really a misconception that you have to get beat up to do MMA. Nothing could be further from the truth. There are all sorts of levels of involvement in mixed martial arts training, from the casual student who works out for fun, to the amateur who steps it up a notch in order to compete, to the professional who lives it day-in and day-out.

And, there’s a different level of intensity in training that’s suited for each of those levels of involvement. A casual student shouldn’t be sparring with hard contact, simply because that’s not what they’re here for. We understand that, and accommodate both the average person who wants to do MMA for fun, as well as the amateur or professional competitor who wants serious training.

Here, you can choose to do one or the other. And we’re here to help you reach your goals either way.

Reason #4 – It’s Fun!

Is training in MMA all fun and games? Of course not, and I’d be lying if I told you it was. Obviously the workouts are challenging, and if you want to do a physical sport that offers you a challenge, it can’t all be fun, right?

Even so, our students will tell you that doing MMA is a blast. There’s always something new to learn, and the friends you’ll make on the mats are friends you’ll have for life. Any student will tell you that there’s something about the friendly competition and esprit de corps in our classes that makes training in MMA stand head and shoulders above any other workout.

Of course, it’s something you have to experience to understand… but from the moment you finish your first class, you’ll know that you’re doing something special.

Reason #5 – Self-Defense

We talk about this a lot, and that’s because it’s a point worth mentioning. Taking a mixed martial arts class is one of the best ways for you to learn how to defend yourself, bar none. And thousands upon thousands of military service members will attest to that fact.

The world over, military units are turning to mixed martial arts training to train their troops in hand-to-hand combat. And, it’s a method that has proven itself in combat over the last several years in combat theaters across the globe.

Sure, it’s something that no one likes to think about, but if soldiers in combat can rely on MMA training for self-defense, you know for a fact that you can, too. So when you’re looking for a workout that’ll also save your hide when you need it, look no further than training in mixed martial arts.

The Most Important Reason…

But probably the most important reason that most people decide to take an MMA class is because they just think MMA is cool! And we get that, because honestly that’s what drew us to it, too. It’s an exciting sport, a reliable method of self-defense, and the most kick-ass workout you’ll find, anywhere. If that’s not cool, I don’t know what is!
